Classical Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a holistic, manual therapy that focuses on the individual. It respects the body as one unit of function: mind, body, and spirit. The foundation of Osteopathy lay within anatomy and physiology, and the body’s inherent capacity to self-heal and regulate. Through treatment, structural dysfunctions are corrected to improve function and relieve obstruction which may inhibit the body’s natural ability to heal.

The founder, Dr. Andrew Still, developed Osteopathy in the 1870s as a reformation to medicine. He recognized structural deviations in relation to disease and began an extensive study into anatomy and physiology. Still’s newfound success treating disease and dysfunction was attributed to applying the principle of correction to anatomical and physiological relationships. In other words, a displaced bone will alter the function of the surrounding nerves and blood vessels.
